As the academic year has ended and the students are on vacation, the teachers of our school decided to donate the left-over stock of rice and moong dal brought by students for the Amritam Project, to the needy.
One of our teachers, Sujata Nair came across a place where children from nearby slums were educated by an NGO named ‘Dardil’. The organizers have named it ‘Paathshaala – Ek Koshish’. We gathered information about it and then decided to visit.
On Saturday, March 10, 2017, 28 teachers accompanied by a few drivers, conductors and maids participated in the noble endeavour. When we reached the place, we saw the children seated on a mat on the ground in a very disciplined manner. The scene was very touching, and the effort made by Neetu Singh, Sonu Singh and Dileep Sir to educate the poverty-stricken children is applaudable.
After talking to them for a while, we distributed biscuits to the children. They were so disciplined that they waited for their teacher’s permission before opening the biscuit packets. We also distributed Hanuman Chalisa and chanted it together. Thereafter, we distributed rice and moong dal to around 50 children. Each child received 5 kg of rice and 2.5 kg of moong dal. Our teachers inspired them by narrating value based stories. Finally, we took their leave and returned to school.
The experience was one which will linger in our hearts for a very long time.
